What Ayurveda says about the rainy season –
After a scorching summer, we all love the pleasant coolness of the rainy season! However, Ayurveda says that varsha ritu (rainy season) is the worst of all the six seasons as far as health is concerned.
According to Charaka Samhita – the body strength, digestion, and the immunity of an individual are the weakest during the rainy season. Also, the fruits and vegetables that grow in this season have low vitality. The quality of Water is the worst and is of more amlatva (sourness) and mostly contaminated.
Vata dosha gets accumulated during the summer season due to the dry and hot weather. This accumulated vata dosha gets vitiated in varsha ritu(rainy season). Aggravated Vata dosha moves in abnormal directions uncontrollably everywhere in body and aggravate pitha and kapha. In this season we can see all three doshas vitiate each other and the vitiated doshas and weak digestive fire vitiate each other. This is the reason why many viral fever epidemics like Dengue,Chickun gunya etc occur in this season.
Therefore we must strictly follow Ayurveda recommended dietary and lifestyle practices for the preservation of health in the rainy season.
