According to Ayurveda, fever is described as the worst of all disorders. It is regarded as the king of all diseases. General management of fever in Ayurveda

The person should be given light food like khichadi, rice water, soups, boiled vegetables, fruits and milk.
Milk is one of the best diet for fever, except in the case of loose motion along with the fever. It is a complete food, easy to consume and digest. It has cool temperament and naturally helps to control the temperature and inflammation due to fever.
A person suffering from high fever should refrain from physical labour, standing for a long time or having stress or anxiety. All these factors bring down the immunity of the sick person.
Digestion is of paramount importance during the fever. A fever patient should never have heavy oily meals, sugary or packaged foods, junk food, alcohol (except in the case of excessive cough), heavy non-vegetarian meals.

Home remedy 1
- Turmeric – 10 gm
- Black pepper – 1 pinch
- Tulsi leaves juice – 1-2 tsp
Boil the above ingredients in 2 cups of water and consume when single cup water is remaining. This liquid when consumed every 1 hour significantly helps to control the fever of all types.
Turmeric is a great herb with multiple medicinal properties. It is antioxidant, anti-cancerous, anti-diabetic, and tonic apart from being a great anti-pyretic agent.
Black pepper is a natural anti-pyretic that helps to increase the bio-availability of turmeric. It helps to increase the appetite. It is especially helpful in fever related indigestion, anorexia and constipation.
Tulsi is one of the best Ayurvedic anti-pyretics. It helps to control the vitiated vata. It is also helpful in relieving Kapha related symptoms like heaviness, cough, cold etc.

- Giloy juice – 10 ml
- Black pepper – 1 pinch
- Ginger powder – 1 pinch
Boil the above ingredients in 2 cups of water and consume when single cup water is remaining. This liquid when consumed every 1 hour significantly helps to control the fever of vata and kapha types. It is greatly helpful in elevated blood sugar levels during fever or in the case of diabetics.
Giloy is a natural tonic and immunity booster. It also has great effects as an anti-pyretic.
Black pepper and ginger helps to boost digestion and absorption of giloy juice. They also help to digest the toxins present in the body.
Home remedy 3
- Coriander juice – 10 ml
- Lemongrass juice – 10 ml
- Fennel powder – 5 gm
- Cardamom – 5-6 pieces
Boil the above ingredients in 500 ml of water till only half the water is remaining. This liquid when consumed every 1 hour significantly helps to control the fever of pitta types. The symptoms of pitta dominant fever are – excessive thirst, inflammation, redness and swelling. This liquid is also very helpful in the fever due to sunstroke.
Coriander is a cool temperament herb that helps to balance the water content in the body. It helps to control inflammation and excessive thirst. It is an excellent pitta pacifying herb.
Lemongrass is significantly useful in case of all inflammatory diseases. Apart from pacifying pitta, it helps to purify the blood and is very helpful in skin and blood related disorders.
Fennel and cardamom have anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic properties. They are cool temperament herbs that help to prevent pitta related complications like acidity, hyperthermia, and inflammation.
Home remedy 3
In case of fever-related anorexia, try the following herbal remedy
- Ginger flakes – 10 gm
- Black salt – 1 pinch
- Ghee – enough to fry
Fry the ginger flakes in ghee and sprinkle black salt over them according to the taste. These flakes can be stored in an air-tight glass jar for a month’s time and can be used by anyone facing indigestion or lack of appetite.
The person suffering from fever should eat few of these flakes 15-20 min before meals. These flakes help to stimulate the taste buds and the overall digestive system. Besides, ginger itself is a very good digestive. Ghee is said to be a propeller of digestion according to Ayurveda and a natural medicine for all kinds of fever, especially the pitta dominant fever. Black salt helps to improve the taste of the mouth.
