In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, Maharashtra government has invoked the Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897 to tackle the virus threat. In accordance with the government notification, Govardhan Ecovillage will remain shut till 03rd May, 2020. All seminars, conferences and workshops have been postponed/cancelled until further notice.

There was severe poverty due to lack of employment opportunities in rural areas of Palghar. Govardhan Rural Development Program has initiated "Livelihood for Landless". Identifying individuals who are unskilled and do not have any landholding is undertaken in order to provide them with basic skills and basic support to start micro enterprise.

Broadly the activities of the landless development are classified as under:

  • Skill - example - mason, carpentry, barber, tailoring
  • Agriculture/livestock- example - vegetable cultivation, dairy
  • Trading - example - petty-shop, snack center, juice center, flour mill

1 Lakh Children in Maharashtra Lack Basic Reading, Writing & Math Skills

Absence of landholding and skills has left a large section of the community to be the most vulnerable to the hardships of life.


Since 2016, 52 micro enterprises have been supported under this program. The average income of families who were below the poverty line has reached to Rs.150/- to Rs.500/- per day, thereby making a positive change in their lives and thus, restoring dignity.
